Welcome to Le Petit Moulin

Le Petit Moulin is a small, family run chambre d’hotes and gite business in the Deux-Sevres department of South West France. Our charming, riverside property has two traditional, self-catering holiday gites, which sleep up to 14 people. And we also have two bright and airy B&B rooms. One of these is a family room overlooking the old watermill and courtyard. The other, which sleeps two people, has fantastic views across the garden and the large, outdoor swimming pool.

Our ‘Exclusive Use’ Holiday Package

In 2021, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we introduced a new holiday package. It proved so popular with families and friends wanting to ‘reconnect’ in a safe environment that we have kept the offer in place. With the ‘Exclusive Use‘ holiday you can hire our two family gites and B&B rooms, accommodating up to 20 people. You and your party have exclusive use of the pool – weather permitting – and all our other fantastic facilities. This special package is only available if you book direct with Le Petit Moulin. So for a great price and to confirm availability, contact us today. And start planning your fantastic family holiday.

Le Petit Moulin Pool side view

As well as our glorious pool, we have spacious gardens, woodlands and an exciting playground for the little ones. For the bigger kids we have kayaks, archery, football, fishing, badminton, push bikes and a petanque court. Plus a huge barn full of toys, books and games for all ages!

Le Petit Moulin also has a selection of travel cots, changing mats, blankets, highchairs, pushchairs and a stair gate (for Le Papillon Gite) available on request.

Traditional farmer’s market

For the nearest banks, bars, restaurants and supermarket, they are just 4 kms away, in the pretty market town of Lezay. Every Tuesday morning the town hosts one of the largest traditional outdoor farmer’s markets in the region. There are fruit and vegetable stalls, fresh meat, cheeses, breads and even wine. In fact, you can buy everything here that you need to create your perfect barbecue back at Le Petit Moulin. Also, on a Saturday morning the food hall is open for you to buy all your farm-fresh vegetables.

Freshly baked bread

If it’s the best French experience you want, then you have to visit the local boulangerie and patisseries. Warm, freshly-baked baguettes and croissants can be purchased every day from one or both of the boulangeries in Lezay. And they also have a wonderful selection of delicious, colourful French pastries and gateaux to choose from. Seriously, you cannot visit France without trying at least one or two traditional French cakes.

Star-gazing at Le Petit Moulin

On the warm summer evenings, dine ‘al fresco’ in your own garden, and watch the sun setting across the fields. What better way is there to relax and unwind than with a chilled glass of the local Pineau des Charentes, listening to the evening bird song? Or for the romantics, star-gazing into the clear night skies, watching for shooting stars.

Our Family Gites

Le Papillon – Large rustic-style three bedroom gite, sleeps 8

The largest of our self-catering family gites, Le Papillon (‘Butterfly’) has been extensively renovated, but still retains some of the original barn features. Because of the original stonework, this property stays wonderfully cool in the hot summer months. The front and side windows of the gite have stunning views over open countryside. And in the summer months the fields are full of beautiful sunflowers.

Le Papillon Gite

Le Papillon gite has two double bedrooms on the first floor both with en suite shower rooms. On the ground floor there is a large spacious family room, containing a double bed and two single beds. This room has its own separate toilet, and a large walk-in shower room with ‘his & hers’ wash basins.

Also on the ground floor, the open plan family living space includes comfortable sofas and chairs, a TV with Freeview, and a DVD player, plus dining table and chairs.

The outside space is accessed through the double-glazed patio doors, which lead onto a large private garden with two picnic tables, and your own barbecue.

Le Martin-Pecheur – Charming two bedroom gite, sleeps 6.

Our gite is named after the colourful ‘martin-pecheur’ or kingfisher that are frequently spotted along the riverbank. This family-sized gite has all the accommodation at ground level, including the the two bedrooms. One has a double bed and bunk beds, the other has a king-sized bed. There is also a large shower room and separate toilet.

The gite’s open plan family living space includes a comfortable corner sofa and chairs, TV with Freeview, and DVD player. There’s also a dining table and chairs, and the well-equipped kitchen has all mod-cons. Including a gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee machine and a dishwasher. As well as an iron and ironing board in the gite, there is a washing machine provided for our guests in the utility room in the barn. However, we do not provide washing powder or fabric softener.
